Frederick Davis, MD
I have recently retired after 48 years of practicing psychiatry and psychotherapy. I remained in practice for this extended length of time because I retain a deep curiosity and interest in my fellow human beings, and have always known that serving others is life-sustaining both for they and myself.
While no longer wishing to be a therapist (there does come a time), I retain an active interest in the field and want to continue to serve.
In that regard, I offer my experience/expertise as a consultant to therapists. We have all had "difficult" patient/clients—those who actively defy our best attempts to help; those we deeply cannot understand; those so terribly emotionally damaged there is little we can do to alleviate their suffering. Of particular note for me have been persons with severe borderline conditions, serious suicide intent, and those with paranoid character disorders.
In consultation, we may address topics such as:
For individual consultation, we would meet at my office for 50-minute sessions, either a single time or as many as deemed necessary or desired. If there is interest, I will also offer the option of small consult group(s) of 4-6 people for case consultation. Length and terms of the groups would be determined based on interest and need.
